SUMMARY:Basic Science Pre-Meeting Course Recent Advances in the Biology of Invertebrate Vectors and Implications for the Control of Tropical Diseases
DTSTART:20101102T140000Z
DTEND:20101102T140000Z
DESCRIPTION:This one-day course targets scientists\, physicians\, clin
icians\, graduate students and educators who wish to gain a better und
erstanding of the biology of invertebrate vectors and their key role i
n the transmission of parasites\, viruses and helminths that are respo
nsible for significant morbidity and mortality\, most especially in re
source-constrained areas of the world. Topics will include an overvie
w of the major vector-borne diseases and current control measures\, as
well as those in development targeting the vector. Presentations wil
l consider the molecular\, cellular\, neurobiological and immunologica
l advances that enhance our knowledge of vector biology\, physiology\,
behavior and vector – pathogen and vector – host interactions\, a
s well as for discovery of new approaches to disease control.
