Teaching Exercises
These are teaching exercises that can be done using reagents from FR3 and BEI.
- Differential filarial gene expression by real-time PCR
- Requires use of Brugia malayi adult male and female RNA, available through BEI Resources. cDNA synthesis can be set up within 30 minutes, followed by a 45 minute incubation. Quantitative RT-PCR requires a 30 minute setup and a 2.5 hour cycle time.
- Immunohistochemistry for Wolbachia surface protein
- We perform this exercise at the annual FR3 minicourse. It has been optimized to take only 2-3 hours if slides are deparaffinized beforehand. Note: this requires the anti-WSP monoclonal antibody, BEI Resources BEI catalog # NR-31029.
